A whole new world landed on Broadway in 2014, when the Tony Award-nominated Best Musical “Aladdin” flew into the New Amsterdam Theatre. Based on the 1992 Disney animated film of the same name, the musical follows the titular street urchin as he journeys to the Cave of Wonders, where he discovers a magical lamp that changes his life forever. Unleashing a friendly and funny Genie who will grant him three wishes, Aladdin transforms into royalty to win the heart of Princess Jasmine. The only thing standing in his way is the Sultan’s villainous Grand Vizier, Jafar, who will stop at nothing to steal the lamp and take the throne

Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw, “Aladdin” brings audiences on an enchanting adventure to the deserts of Agrabah, complete with high-flying carpet rides and a toe-tapping Genie that will have you wishing for more.

ALADDIN recommends that children be at least six years old to attend a performance of ALADDIN.

## What to watch for
The 337 costumes worn in “Aladdin” were all custom made by hand.

In the Genie’s musical number “Friend Like Me,” there are 1,428 Swarovski crystals on a pair of men’s pants.

James Monroe Iglehart, who originated the role of the Genie in the stage production, took home the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.

Jonathan Freeman, who voiced the villainous Jafar in the 1992 film, reprised his performance on stage in the original cast of the musical.

Don’t expect Aladdin’s monkey sidekick, Abu, to make an appearance. In the stage adaptation, Aladdin has a trio of friends named Omar, Babkak, and Kassim.

It’s the circle of life, and Simba has been named the heir to the throne of the Pride Lands, much to the chagrin of Scar, King Mufasa’s jealous younger brother. So Scar hatches a plan to manipulate the young prince and his playmate Nala so that he can inherit the throne before Simba comes of age. Despite his caretaker Zazu’s protests, Simba ventures outside of his father’s realm, finding himself trapped in a wildebeest stampede of Scar’s making. While Mufasa saves his son’s life, he can’t save his own, as Scar tosses him off the cliff into the mass of sprinting animals. Simba retreats, blaming himself for his father’s death and meets the comedy kings of the jungle, Timon and Pumbaa. While he plans to stay with them, the soothsayer Rafiki knows the young prince’s destiny and is determined to bring him back where he belongs. 

This classic story of family will speak to anyone who has ever been a parent or a child, and the soaring score and exquisite puppetry will have audiences of all ages feeling the love. Inspired by the Oscar-winning 1994 Disney film, the musical was brilliantly crafted for the stage by visionary director Julie Taymor and features hundreds of expertly-crafted puppets and masks to bring the world of Pride Rock to brilliant life. And all your favorite Elton John and Tim Rice songs from the film — including Oscar-winning song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?”, “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” and “Hakuna Matata” — are there, along with additional music from by Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Taymor, and Hans Zimmer. This classic tale of love and redemption will definitely have you feeling the love.

The full casting for the West End reopening of <a href="/show/mary-poppins">Mary Poppins</a> has been announced.
